What is Google Voice?
Google Voice is a web-based service from Google that allows you to manage voice services along with allowing you to make computer to computer calls, video calls and computer to phone calls. There are many uses of Google Voice but here are some ways that I am using Google Voice for my business that can easily be incorporated into your business.
1. Personalized phone number: Google Voice allowed me to search for a specific number (in my case 1863). You could also search for a short word or phrase if you wanted something very specific. For example, if you have a pet related business, you could search for PETS or PETZ or 4PET or whatever you like.
2. Voicemail: I have my Google Voicemail setup so that it will actually transcribe the message and send it to me via text message and email. This is great if I am on the go and can’t login to check voice mail. I can even create custom voice mail greetings based on the phone number of people calling me.
3. Call forwarding: I am able to forward my Google Voice number to my cell phone. This is terrific because I recently got a new cell number but I did not have to change my website or business cards because they already have my Google Voice number.
4. Making Calls: If I’m at my computer and don’t want to use my cell phone, I can use Google Voice to make calls to clients for free.
5. Voice memos: Yes, I know that I can just call my cell phone and leave a voice mail or I could use one of many apps on my iPhone BUT if I call my Google Voice number, it transcribes the message for me. So, I could write a letter, blog post or email when I’m not near a computer. It will be transcribed for me and all I need to do is to copy and paste.
